Namibia

The south is arid; indeed, the country takes its name from the Namib Desert, which occupies much of the territory. The West Coast looks out onto the Atlantic Ocean, where sandy beaches are dotted with luxury hotels; Shipwreck Lodge is the finest of them all, and you’ll find nothing like it the world over. Etosha National Park to the north is the best place to see wildlife; wait by a waterhole for lions, elephants, and everything in between.

Thrillseekers flock to Swakopmund, an isolated coastal city known for its German colonial architecture, where you can horse ride in the Namib desert, skydive, sandboard, and much more.
